Abstract

The prevalence of type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is on the rise globally. Effective management of this condition, utilizing both medication and non-medication approaches, has significant potential to enhance the success of therapeutic interventions. It is crucial to recognize the importance of a multi-faceted treatment strategy that addresses various aspects of the disease to improve patient outcomes. Medication therapy necessitates patient adherence for optimal effectiveness. Low adherence levels can significantly hinder therapeutic outcomes and adversely impact patients' quality of life. Thus, understanding and addressing adherence issues is crucial for enhancing therapy efficacy. The aim of this study is to analyse the variable of medication adherence on the quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The research design is cross-sectional. The population size is 115 and the sample size is 54. Sampling was conducted using the random sampling technique. There are two instruments, namely Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 item) to measure medication adherence and The Brief Version of the World Health Organization’s Quality of Life Questionnaire to measure quality of life. The Spearman Rank test was used to analyse both variables. The results show a value (p = 0.005 < 0.05), meaning Ha is accepted with a correlation coefficient of 0.379. These results suggest that enhancing medication adherence may lead to improvements in patients' quality of life. Consequently, the study advocates for ongoing education and the strengthening of chronic disease management programs within community health centers to support better patient outcomes
