Abstract

Mathematical problem-solving skills are one of the essential skills that students must possess in mathematics education. These skills are influenced not only by cognitive factors but also by intrinsic factors originating from within the students themselves, one of which is self-confidence. This study aims to examine and provide an overview of the influence of self-confidence on mathematical problem-solving skills. This study employed a quantitative method using a survey approach. The population of this study consisted of all eighth-grade students at MTsN 6 Bantul. The research sample was selected using cluster random sampling, resulting in Class VIII A, comprising 28 students. The research instruments consisted of a mathematical problem-solving ability test on circle-related material and a self-confidence scale, both of which had been validated and found to be reliable. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation test and simple linear regression. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation test and simple linear regression. The results of the study indicate that there is a significant relationship between self-confidence and mathematical problem-solving ability, with a correlation coefficient of . The regression analysis results show that self-confidence has a positive effect on students’ mathematical problem-solving ability. In addition, self-confidence accounts for of mathematical problem-solving ability, while the remaining 86% is influenced by other factors beyond self-confidence. Thus, it can be concluded that self-confidence is one of the intrinsic factors that play a role in supporting students’ mathematical problem-solving ability.
