PERBANDINGAN KARAKTERISTIK MINYAK ATSIRI PALMAROSA (CYMBOPOGON MARTINII) HASIL DESTILASI UAP AIR DAN DESTILASI AIR

Latar belakang :
Minyak atsiri merupakan komoditi Indonesia yang potensial untuk dikembangkan. Salah satu tanaman penghasil minyak atsiri tersebut adalah Cymbopogon martinii. Minyak atsiri yang dihasilkan adalah minyak palmarosa. Minyak palmarosa memiliki kandungan senyawa kimia yang berpotensi untuk dikembangkan, baik untuk produk obat, kosmetik maupun parfum. Selain kualitas bahan awal, kualitas minyak atsiri sangat dipengaruhi oleh proses penyulingannya.
Tujuan :
Membandingkan karakteristik minyak atsiri yang dihasilkan melalui metode destilasi uap air dan destilasi air.
Metode :
Sampel yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah daun Cymbopogon martinii dan minyak palmarosa hasil destilasi metode uap air dari Rumah Atsiri Tawangmangu. Sampel daun Cymbopogon martinii dilayukan dan disuling menggunakan metode destilasi air. Minyak palmarosa yang dihasilkan dari metode destilasi air dan destilasi uap air, selanjutnya dikarakterisasi menggunakan parameter uji organoleptis, uji indeks bias dan analisis kandungan menggunakan Gas Chromatography - Mass Spectrum (GC-MS).
Hasil :
Uji organoleptis menunjukkan minyak palmarosa hasil destilasi air berwarna kuning pekat, jernih dan memiliki aroma palmarosa yang khas, sedangkan minyak palmarosa hasil destilasi uap air memiliki warna kuning pucat, aroma palmarosa dan lebih jernih dibandingkan hasil dari destilasi air. Indeks bias minyak palmarosa destilasi air dan destilasi uap air masing-masing adalah 1,4707 dan 1,4699. Identifikasi menggunakan GC-MS menunjukkan minyak palmarosa destilasi air mengandung 1,3,7-Octatriene, 3,7-Dimethyl, Linalool, Geraniol, Geranyl acetate, Trans-Caryophyllene, Nerolidol, Geranyl hexanoate , sedangkan minyak palmarosa destilasi uap air mengandung senyawa 1,3,7-Octatriene, 3,7-Dimethyl, Linalool, Geraniol, Geranyl acetate, Trans-Caryophyllene, Linalyl acetate, Nerolidol, Geranyl hexanoate, Geranyl Isovalerate. Komposisi tertinggi dari kedua minyak palmarosa tersebut adalah Geraniol dengan % area minyak palmarosa destilasi air adalah 87,83% dan minyak palmarosa destilasi uap air 79,47%.
Kesimpulan :
Minyak palmarosa destilasi air dan uap air memiliki perbedaan karakteristik pada aspek organoleptis, indeks bias dan hasil identifikasi GC-MS. Hasil identifikasi GC-MS menunjukkan bahwa jenis kandungan senyawa pada minyak palmarosa destilasi uap air lebih banyak dibandingkan hasil destilasi air. Identifikasi kuantitatif GC MS menunjukkan geraniol pada minyak palmarosa destilasi air lebih tinggi dibandingkan destilasi uap air.
