This study was conducted with the aim of optimizing student’s mathematical problem solving abilities through the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model supported by the use of the Canva application. The subjects of this study were 20 eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Tanjungbalai. The focus of this research was the learning process carried out using the Problem Based Learning model assisted by Canva. The method employed in this study was Classroom Action Research (CAR), which was implemented in two cycles. Data were collected through essay-based tests designed to measure students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities at the end of each cycle. The results of the study indicated a gradual improvement in students’ mathematical problem solving abilities. In the initial stage prior to the implementation of the intervention, the average score was 36.97, with 13 students (65%) categorized as having very low ability, while the remaining students were in the low category. After the implementation of Cycle I using the Problem Based Learning model assisted by Canva, the average score increased to 69.22. However, there were still 3 students (15%) categorized as having very low ability. Overall, there was an increase of 32.25 points compared to the initial condition. In Cycle II, further improvement was observed, with the average score reaching 87.35. At this stage, 18 students (90%) achieved learning mastery, reflecting an increase of 18.13 points from Cycle I. Additionally, improvement was also indicated by the N-Gain scores, which were 0.54 in Cycle I and increased to 0.61 in Cycle II; both are classified as moderate. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Problem Based Learning model integrated with the Canva application is effective in improving the mathematical problem solving abilities of eighth grade students.
